New Advances in Formosan Linguistics

Edited by Elizabeth Zeitoun, Stacy Fang-ching Teng and Joy Jin-lan Wu

The present monograph is a festschrift in honor of Prof. Lillian M. Huang that was offered to her on July 20 at Academia Sinica during the Thirteenth International Conference on Austronesian Linguistics (July 18-23, 2015). Prof. Lillian M. Huang is a leading figure in Formosan linguistics on which her research has concentrated since her return to Taiwan in 1987. She has been involved in the development of the discipline through her leading role in projects on Typology (back in the 1990’s), through stimulating colleagues and training students and aborigines conducting them to investigate Formosan languages, and through co-publishing with them. She has participated in many international conferences, workshops and seminars and has been involved, for many years, in important ground work in Taiwan, both in academics and in aboriginal language teaching.

The present volume includes 22 papers dealing with all aspects of Formosan linguistics (diachronic and synchronic phonology, lexical studies, morpho-syntax, pragmatics and cognition) and covering data from nearly all the extant Formosan languages, Atayal, Amis, Bunun, Kanakanavu, Kavalan, Rukai, Paiwan, Puyuma, Saaroa, Saisiyat, Seediq, Thao, Tsou, and Yami. This book is published by Asia-Pacific Linguistics (Open access) and is downloadable at the following URL: http://pacling.anu.edu.au/materials/SAL/SAL003.pdf
