主　題：Patterns of Featural Affixes across Chinese Dialects

摘 要：In this talk, I examine representative cases and patterns of featural affixes (including both segmental and prosodic features) across Chinese dialects, and generalize the governing principles under which these affixes are realized phonologically. Featural affixes have been proposed for a few Chinese dialects (e.g. Lin 1989, 1993; Duanmu 1990, Jiang 2008), but crosslinguistic surveys and/or theoretical analyses of featural affixes and the claims made on their behavior never mention Chinese data (e.g. Akinlabi 2011; Wolf 2007; Trommer 2012, 2014). After presenting a typology of Chinese featural affixes and their phonological realizations, I propose a set of principles governing the proper realizations of these affixes: (i) featural/prosodic licensing for a feature/mora to be realized, (ii) cooccurrence restrictions against incompatible or unacceptable feature combinations, (iii) the maximality principle to parse as many elements as possible, and (iv) contrast preservation to avoid phonological identity between a stem and its affixed form and/or among the affixed forms. The concluding remarks include a brief comparison with featural affixes in non-Chinese languages and relevant theoretical and typological implications.
