摘要：In this talk I will survey some typological features of Bantu languages, one of the main language families of Africa. There are about 500 Bantu languages including well-known languages such as Swahili, as well as numerous community languages, many of which are endangered. Typologically, Bantu languages are well-known for their complex noun class systems and the intricacies of the tonal processes. They display complex verbal morphology, and often show syntactic freedom highly sensitive to information structure. I will specifically focus on three aspects of Bantu typology, which resonate with comparable structures in Chinese languages: tone, nominal classification, and locative inversion (thus looking at phonology, morphology, and syntax). While mainly focusing on Bantu, I will adopt a comparative perspective and point out similarities and difference between Bantu and Chinese.
